Maldives for first timers.

If you are planning to visit the Maldives for the first time and looking for some general advice, then this one is for you.

Enchanting Maldives

Enchanting Maldives

Excited for your first time in Maldives. It’s a once in a lifetime experience you will never forget, white sand beaches, blue lagoons and swaying palms will greet you once you step foot into this island country in the middle of the ocean. Words will fail to describe the beauty of the Maldives, it’s arguably the most beautiful place on earth.

For the first time visitor, here are a few tips and tidbits you need to know.

All resorts in the Maldives occupy a whole island, it ranges from 2.5 kms across to 150 meters across, this means that the facilities on the resort you choose will be the only ones you will have access during your stay.

Almost all international flights land in Male international airport, depending on how far your resort is from the airport you will have to take either a seaplane taxi or speedboat. Check with your resort if they provide transfers from the airport and back.

When choosing a resort, price is obviously the main consideration. You also have to think that this is a once in a lifetime experience that might never happen again. It wouldn’t hurt if you spend a little bit more than expected. Most resorts only offer bed and breakfast, cost of meals, drinks etc. maybe high in the resort. Some resorts in the Maldives offer all-inclusive packages, you can only eat in the main restaurant and have to pay extra if you want to try out the other restaurants.

There are a lot of things you can do while on vacation, like snorkeling, scuba diving, catamaran sailing and island hopping. You can even go on a whale and dolphin watching safari.

Beautiful Maldives

Beautiful Maldives

Come to the Maldives and have the time of your life. Experience the breath taking beauty of the last paradise on earth.

Maldives Underwater Photography Tips

Maldives Underwater Photography Tips

The Maldives is undoubtedly famous as one of the best places in the world for underwater photography. Its rich and exotic marine life has transformed the local tourism industry of Maldives into a global market for scuba divers and beach goers. Holiday photographers will instantly fall in love taking photos in Maldives especially in its underwater setting.

Maldives Schooling Fish

There are numerous dive sites in Maldives where you can photograph pelagic fish such as sharks, mantas, and jacks. It takes a lot of patience to take great underwater images even for seasoned divers and photography enthusiasts. Although, a couple of wise tips and tricks will always help you improve in taking underwater photos in Maldives. Try to suck in some of these techniques, so that the next time you go diving and taking photos in the spectacular waters of this tropical paradise, you’ll be surprised to see better results.

General Tips For Underwater Photography in Maldives

  • Hold the camera still while shooting
  • Squeeze the shutter in the proper manner by not putting excess force on it
  • Exhale before you shoot
  • Stabilize your elbows against your body while keeping your arms in
  • Maintain a neutral buoyancy
  • If possible, shoot from the reef bottom

Optimizing Camera Settings for Underwater Photography in Maldives

A good camera might not be the solution for taking better underwater photos in Maldives, but a camera with a manual mode feature is always an advantage for scuba diving photography. There is an ideal aperture setting for every depth range that you’ll encounter.

  • An ISO setting of 100 is best for any underwater depth. Higher ISO settings may result to grainy pictures despite giving more flexibility for motion.
  • Use the TTL flash metering mode.
  • Use an aperture setting of f/11 up to 10m deep.
  • Use an aperture setting of f/8 for depths of 10m to 20m.
  • Use an aperture setting of f/5.6 or f/4 for depths deeper than 20m.
  • It would be wise to pre-focus and keep your position steady because most autofocusing features in underwater cameras is totally ineffective underwater.

Do remember that these tips are not necessarily rules or guidelines for underwater photography. Your own creativity and experimentation is also the key to taking better scuba diving photos in Maldives!

True Love in the Maldives

How does the Senior Platform Manager at Facebook Dave Morin propose to his Google girlfriend Brittany Bohnet? Simple, by spelling out “B. Will you marry me?” in coconuts on a a sandy beach in the Maldives and flying over it in a private charter plane while she gets to pilot it.

She obviously said yes, what girl in their right mind wouldn’t and the whole thing was later posted on a Flickr gallery with a bunch of photos.
